Edurne is an old, old name. A name that any old clan would recognize in a heartbeat, and one that stirs varied emotions depending on who asks. One might even say that it is as multicolored as an aurora veil, whether it be fear, awe, envy, spite...Samuel has heard it all.[break][break]
The Alolan Ninetales was the second born in a family of fire and ice. An arranged marriage cumulated into a large family, but one might not be surprised to hear that it wasn't a smooth sailing one. Being second meant a lot of things: less responsibilities, but also less attention. Sometimes, however, it also forced him to clean up the eldest's messes, and there were certainly many of that. Bottom line was that he flitted between being needed for something grossly trivial or unnecessary and pushed aside when he wanted to do something that mattered. It didn't help that his ability would often and inadvertently bring literal chills into the room; a power that he inherited from his mother.[break][break]
Unfortunately, his early life did not give him leeway to try much else. He was mostly holed up at home, taking care of chores or watching over his younger siblings. He could only read about the amazing adventures that happened beyond the walls. It was...depressing, to say the least, but sometimes this was what siblings were for. It was on one fine day when he found out that one of his youngest found a way out of their house without the others finding out. He remembered when his lights lit up when he first set eyes on that dirt hole. It was crude as hell, but it was a way out. A literal light at the end of the tunnel.[break][break]
His sibling soon got "bored" of sneaking out (Samuel figured he was more of terrified of their parents), but the icy fox loved every minute of it. He made sure to exhaust every single trip he could manage to map out the terrain, to see the sights, and to plan a way out. He could escape everything...his parents, his siblings, a potential arranged marriage, all of it.[break][break]
He left his home at a tender age of fourteen, old enough to immediately realize his mistake, but too young to figure out how to get out of it. To recall what he had gone through to survive used to pain him, but now it only creased his face just a little. How could one see those years as formation if it broke him again and again? He would wander from place to place, completing many unsavory jobs that capitalized on his "youthful" beauty. He would be groomed then beaten; his fur that was once pristine white would become matted and splotched. It would then come to a point where one particular establishment that paid more handsomely than the rest would thrust an Ice Stone onto his person.[break][break]
It's better this way. You will get more customers.[break][break]
He had forgotten when he had reached a state of apathy, but to his surprise his emotions were not completely buried under it all. A paw reached out to him once...asking if he wanted another way out. Another light at the end of the tunnel. He hadn't learned anything, apparently, and took it without question.[break][break]
He watched them burn, but they were here to collect.[break][break]
At this point, anything felt better than going back home or returning to the pits where he had been stuck in for the past several years. The mafia boss was new, apparently, for the previous one was ruthlessly killed for one reason or another. Frankly, he didn't care, but what did matter was that in order to survive this new landscape, he needed to work his way up. He was actually in a position to do so instead of being forced to stay at the bottom. The icy fox would attempt to muster all of his past lessons in battle and put them to good use. Snow Warning proved to be a unique asset in instilling fear.[break][break]
Instead of being adored...he could bring fear...[break][break]
How interesting.[break][break]
It took much less time to catch the eye of the Don, thank Arceus, and when he did, he made sure to embrace the opportunity with open arms. It's funny, though, that in the end of it all he wound up having to take care of something again. It reminded him of his siblings, almost, only he actually liked it here, somehow. He would chuckle to himself before dropping his smile, preparing to meet with the next poor sap that walked through that door.
FIRE AND ICE
