The sky was ablaze by the time Zeik Lonzanger found his way to Market street. Many stalls were closing or shut, while eateries were only starting to open. He seemed to have arrived at the awkward time between business and was more than a little lost. It had been a long 3 days at sea, the trip from Melphitia having been ill prepared and a hardship he was not used to. Thrust out with only what he could carry, he had boarded a ship, and left his life, and his current problems, on the shoreline. He was now completely, utterly alone in a sense that made him nude. He wasn’t unsociable, but this new feeling had a ball in his throat. He had a creeping sensation this is what feeling responsible might be like. [break][break]
All this wasn’t as disastrous as it may sound, as at least he had a place to stay. His family had come to own a small shopfront on the Market street, a place that was famous throughout all Niphios. At least that’s what it said in the brochure. And Zeik had read everything on those 6 pieces of paper at least 20 times. To him that felt like a lot, and that was all he had on where he was going outside an address. He was not familiar with much outside of his homeland, having not travelled much. Niphios was not a place that the Croagunk had ever planned on visiting, and there was a narrowness to his focus. Weaving through a work crew of a Poliwrath and a few Pignite, he noticed how the stall they were dismantling had been built almost like a paper cut-out and was quickly collapsed and stored. [break][break]
Leather straps chaffed at Zeik’s shoulders as he craned his neck up. The Brochure had also made note of Springtime afternoon rain, something he only realised he had missed on his third read-though, and it seemed he was about to experience one. Beneath the Royal Palace, tall topped clouds of murk marked false the warm orange horizon line. There was a cooling breeze rolling though, which tugged at the surfboard at his side, catching the gust like a sail, and the temperature was dropping. His feet were tired, and he had been walking nearly an hour from the docks where he disembarked, all up hill. The Castle, its spires lunging at the storm, as if to shelter the town from the impending drizzle, seemed still so far away. Now on Market Street though, he had to be close to safety. [break][break]
“This walk has been gnarly… I have no idea how close I am.” [break][break]
On top of restless, he was also feeling increasingly out of place. This urban sprawl was very different from his island home, and it was jarring for him. Many of the species common here made him feel small, and the place was much more rigid in a way he could not describe, but more so sense. Though there had been no comments, he felt like Pokémon were less forgiving about him being “in the way” as he trudged up the well-kept sidewalks, the slight clink of his interior of his backpack marching in step. [break][break]
But Zeik was sure they stared. The ink on his arms and shoulders attracted looks, and the lack of them on other Pokémon on the boat had clued the Croagunk in on something he’d never really considered. Most Pokémon here were of the fuzzy variety, and those that had areas that weren’t certainly were not displaying ink. This is maybe what they meant by culture shock. [break][break]
He stood now at a corner, and there was a distant rumble. He squinted at a street sign, and considered his options, coming to the thought that he may even be well past his destination. Nothing else for it, he was going to have to approach somebody, or maybe if he looked confused enough, someone might just happen to approach him.

Post by Samuel Edurne on Mar 28, 2020 9:28:24 GMT -6
The rain was a fairly common sight to the city of Colbagne, but it did not mean that Samuel was used to them, or liked them for that matter. His expression soured a bit as he glanced at the darkening sky, annoyed that his nice little walk on the surface was going to be cut short for today. Ah well, he supposed he had some work that needed to be done, anyway. Might as well square it away as soon as possible. The Alolan Ninetales walked with fine grace and poise; something that he had instilled in him as a child and beaten into his brain in his young adult years. While he had grown to control his ability, he was unable to shut it off completely, and so any Pokemon that would cross him would suddenly shiver from the slight drop in temperature. His fur would 24/7 emanate cool air, which was nice in the summer for others, but not with the rain coming.
He did turn a few heads; his species was not all that common, and was often attributed to a certain clan more than anything else. Still, he had been here all of his life, and so while not an everyday appearance, the Pokemon knew of his presence. Not exactly who he was, but his existence, and for now that was his best compromise.
It just so happened that he wasn't the most notable creature on the streets today. Samuel noticed that some other stares were at a particular direction, and following their gazes led to one rather odd looking Croagunk. Tattoos were not a trend here and were often associated with more unsavory things. He didn't have an air of a criminal, though, just someone sketchy or shady. The icy fox let out a small huff, watching the poison type looking rather lost and anxious as the storm approached.
His ears then pricked; an idea popping into his head. He usually wasn't the one recruiting debtors, but this seemed like too good of an opportunity to pass up. Even in the likely scenario that this kid didn't have any money on him, he would like to think that he might make a good lackey. His appearance made it easier to attract more sinister folk, he'd like to think.
And so he approached him with a small smile that looked a little too much like a smirk. "Excuse me, do you need assistance?" his tone was polite, at least. "I can't help but notice that you seem new around here..."

Zeik was quietly beginning to fret. Waves of mild panic began to wash over his body as he realised just how out of his depth he was. This was not home, and he didn’t have the money to go back. As his stood on the corner, flecks of perspiration breaking out over his dry skin, the icy cold of his own situation spread across his back. Lost in his thoughts, he jumped at the Ninetails’ comments, his surf board swinging dangerously close to the taller Pokémon’s ankles as he spun around. There were so many types of Pokémon Zeik was only now being introduced to, and this was another new one. Aqua blue with a stunning coat, they seemed to be the source of cold that he felt, which was a little reassuring. [break] [break] ”Woah, like, hey! You scared me bro! Sorry.” Zeik caught his breath a little, and laughed. “Greheheh! Sorry bro, but yeah, you seem to have your eyes open, hey, dude?” [break] [break]
The Croagunk fidgeted a moment, then held out the small slip of bleached paper he was carrying. Looking as though it had been crushed and smoothed out a number of times, Zeik found himself feeling embarrassed in front of this polite Ninetails, he felt the tattoos on his shoulders warm up in contrast to the icy aura. The paper also featured a small letterhead with a cursive L. It featured simple directions written in black ink, detailing how to get from the Docks to Market Street, something Zeik had still managed to mess up on the walk over, and circled at the bottom was thus:
[break] [break]
New Residence, 442, Corner of Main and Market Street. Double story. Square window, yellow front, green door.
[break] [break]
Zeik held the paper in front of this considerably helpful citizen, noticing how the cold that emanated from him seemed to be bringing a slight haze to the air around him. There was a fair absence of quadruple Pokémon in Melphitia, and it occurred to him how annoying it must be to have to have everything held in front of you as he was.
[break] [break]
“So like, do you know where we are dude? Am I close?”

Samuel would tilt his head a little, finding his language rather coarse. He liked that he was able to scare him though, even if it was just because he caught him off guard and he was certainly in unfamiliar territory. Ugh, that laugh grated his ears, though. "I'd like to keep my eyes and ears open, yes." he replied cooly, watching the poison type carefully. He did not want to end up getting poison jabbed; an attack that would prove to be highly troublesome and super effective to his typing. The Croagunk would pull out a sad little piece of paper that had surprisingly pretty, cursive writing. He was curious about that -- something seemed noteworthy about it, for Pokemon normally did not pay that much attention to penmanship so long as it was readable. Perhaps he could try to wring out some information on that one...
But first, he had to read what was on this paper. "Corner of Main and Market Street..." he muttered. "Well, we certainly are on Market street, you have that at least." the fox would turn his head towards the slight upward slope. "You would have to keep walking upwards until you reach the next large intersection. Your building would probably be sitting somewhere in that ring. Not too far, I believe, and if you run you might get there before the rain fall." he noted that the other Pokemon around him were already starting to either close up their stalls or at least find some shelter from the weather. The shower shouldn't last all that long, but it was still annoying all the same, making the cobble streets wet and leaving a dampness in his paws.
He let out a small huff though, thinking that if he wanted information (or money) he would have to follow him. Guess he still had to act like a gentleman. "I can escort you there, as there are quite a few side streets along the way, if you wish." the large board he was carrying would certainly slow them down, though. The icy fox knew of the shape, but couldn't quite pinpoint what it was used for. Oh well, it probably wasn't important.

The paced and well-measured voice of Zeik's new acquaintance was much like Colbagne around him. Somehow just a little too sharp to be friendly. Still, it certainly sounded like he knew where he was going, and that was what Zeik was after. [break][break] "Hoho, fully sick my dude! I was hoping I had at least that part right, otherwise I’d be in real trouble. Glad to hear we are so close too." Again, he trained his head skywards. The horizon was now a dull red, the warm orange having quickly faded to a cool dusk. Around the pair, pillared lamps were being lit by a Chandelure, prepared to burn all night through the storm. "I don’t mind the rain myself man, it's good for the skin, you know? But I still want to get things that aren’t me out of it. Lead the way bro!”
[break][break] As the two were talking, the surfboard was tugged at again by the wind, causing the diminutive toad to hop in place a little to retain his balance. "Grehehe, is it always so windy out here, man? Wind ruins otherwise wicked days, you feel me homie?” He grinned, showing all his teeth. “Oh yeah man, that’d be real sweet of you dude. You sure it’s no bother?” He spun in the direction his new companion had motioned and began to plod up the hill, the needles in his pack resuming their marching beat. [break][break] “B.T.W, I’m Zeik!” The frog extended his fist out of habit, then looked down at the four feet planted on the coloured cobblestone. There was a moment’s pause before he withdrew his hand, pretending to adjust his pack, causing the equipment inside to clink again. Fist bumping a fox, particularly one as mannered as this one, felt like a faux pas. “Uh. Anyway yeah, I just got here. Today in fact. Got off a ship, walked from the Docks!” He rubbed the back of his neck. “Have you been at Niphios long? I’ve not seen anyone quite like you before.”
[break][break] Zeik was making a mess of this. He hated this feeling, of being judged, of having others look at him funny. He was used to being chill, relaxed, and in good company. This must be culture shock, he decided. He would figure it out, in time.

Post by Samuel Edurne on Mar 29, 2020 2:31:25 GMT -6
He supposed that make sense. Samuel recalled of an ability he encountered before that did better with the water, but not so much the heat. It was a little bit like him, but he preferred neither rain or sun. The snow (and sometimes hail) was where he reigned. Still...that grating use of slang...ugh, he had his work cut out for him, but he should be used to such things by now. Sometimes he had some clients that were stuck in their ways to speaking in such a manner. Most others, along with those under him, were usually smart to do otherwise. "During this season, yes, though the sea certainly adds to the wind that you are feeling at the moment." he did not understand the latter bit, finding himself confused on how a windy day would be ruining. Well, sure, if it was too windy then that was troublesome for stall owners that did not secure their stands correctly, but he did like the cool air. It was like winter, but not quite.
"It is no trouble. My home follows this direction, anyway." it was still a ways away, but it was either that or the sewers again. He did have work though...his lips curved downward at the thought, but the Croagunk he decided to escort was unfortunately very chatty, so he could not be left to his own musings for long. What in Giratina was BTW? "You may call me Frost." he replied. It was what he defaulted to whenever introducing himself to a stranger. The icy fox watched the poison type raise his fist, but seemed to have second thoughts and awkwardly let it do something else. Well, he did his best to pick up the conversation again, he would give him that.
"That's a bit of a long way, especially with all of the items you're carrying." he remarked, "And yes, all my life I've been here. Fortunately or unfortunately, depending on how you wish to perceive it, I have not been anywhere else." there was a time where he dreamed of joining the guild and exploring the uncharted lands, but that was a long, long time ago. "My species isn't very common around here, especially as I am considered a 'variant'. Do not worry about not knowing what I am. Many certainly do not." most do not ask, as they were usually aware of the fire type Ninetales, so it didn't take much to put two and two together to figure out that he wasn't a shiny, but rather a different kind altogether.
He glanced up at the sky again to find that the storm was approaching quicker than he had expected. Still, he was not sure if the other could run properly with all of those items, but he was not inclined to offer his maw to carry them. Maybe the Croagunk wouldn't like that anyhow. "We should perhaps hurry if you do not want your items to get wet." he muttered, noticing the crowds thinning the further they went up the street.

Zeik's Shit Shack would be closed up and furnished sparingly right now, with sheets over the glass counters and a board across the inside of the main window, restricting view, but there would be a little table and some chairs out the back by the staircase.
|
“Hwoah bro, it blows in across the sea here? You’d get some gnarly cross-chop out there, hey? I guess it’s not like home, where you can just cross to the other bay. Only one you got, and it’s a shipping lane too. Not cool.” Zeik kicked a loose pebble down the sidewalk as he spoke, looking dejected a moment. “I guess I won’t have much use for this after all.” He said quietly, lightly slapping the waxed plank at his side. It swung slightly under the blows, matching the mood of it's owner.
[break] [break]
There was a low rumble from sky beyond the castle as the two walked, though the Croagunk seemed nonplussed. At his companion’s name however, his expression returned to his more regular joviality. “Frost? Get real bro, that’s no name for someone like you. That’s like meeting a Bulbasaur named Cabbage, or an Infernape named Blaze, or something.” He gestured wide with his hands, letting his board catch a little in the increasing breeze, and he couldn’t help smirking at his newly acquired acquaintance. [break] [break]“But I guess that’s just some Pokémon’s lot. And it’s a shame what you think. We are all unique and there is a magic in that. We’re all in this together, have to get along, you know? I care who you are, that matters to me. You’re a local! We can hang out! Or at least wave on the street. Hopefully you’re not far from me!”
[break] [break]
“Speaking of being far away, I’m from Melphitia. Just arrived, like I said.” He laughed again. “Grehehehe, might be a bit of a warm for you there though, Frost-bro. Loooots of rays!” While Zeik was enjoying himself, having not engaged in any social activities on the boat, he became aware that he might be placing some unwanted burdening on his saviour. “But you’re right bro, can’t be getting too wet now. I can’t run and talk and you’re faster than me. Let’s hop to it and you just tell me when we arrive!” With that, Zeik took the lead, waddling up the emptying street with gusto. [break] [break]
As the toad picked up pace and again his bag began to jingle pleasantly, Zeik took a moment to reflect. He was looking forward to being able to finally drop everything and collapse on a couch, tired as he was. But Zeik felt lucky to have met someone a little bit older, who might even live close by, and this new social bridging filled him with energy! His new companion should be able to help him settle in, he thought. The brochure noted that Colbagne was first and foremost an adventurer’s town, something about dungeons, so his acquaintance must know something about that. Selling supplies from his soon to be open shop would be a good direction to go, but he needed someone who knew the area, and he had happened across such a fellow. Frost may even be able to put him in contact with a supplier! He seemed to live on Market street, so he must know a few other merchants, maybe?
[break][break]“Come on, my most helpful bro, we must be almost there!”
