Chip Emerson the Raboot, also known by Jedderson as “Scoop”, is a novice reporter under the employ of The Colbagne Times, a newspaper. Working mostly as a printer and paperboy, Chip is also responsible for the Crime Report and some interviews featured in the Times.[break][break]
Leaving an abusive and fractured home at in the outskirts of Colbange at the age 13, Chip grew up rough and hard; begging for food, running from fights and avoiding authorities. Chip has seen firsthand the negligence of the fortunate, having come to especially despise the idea of a God-gifted Pokémon of no obvious specialty lounging in a spired palace, as he and many others squabble over scraps in its shadow. He has heard many stories and falsehoods of hardship and witnessed abject cruelty to both himself and his friends by those with the ability to help them. He also found that kindness and compassion likely came from the most downtrodden of fellows, and to be given a chance means that he would have to return in kind.[break][break]
Dusty and cranky with a terrible cough and an extensive library, Jedderson is the old and wizened editor and printer for The Colbagne Times. He once worked in the Palace as an assistant to an assistant, using his tail-brush to copy out works of the ministry, taking notes, memos and so on. As the Smeargle began to age, however, the bristles of his tail-brush stopped growing, and soon his neat strokes became little more than the scratching of a worn-out toothbrush. Jedderson eventually moved to take over the state sponsored newspaper. Though he could have claimed to laid eyes on the new King only once, he holds his highness and his late predecessor in very positive regard, and his paper reflects this.[break][break]
At the age of 15, Chip and Jedderson had a chance meeting. A disgruntled Jedderson, struggling to maintain his workload with his newfound handicap, resolved to find himself an apprentice. Opening his front door to greet the day, he found his passage blocked by a still sleeping Chip, he himself having taken shelter from a Springtime storm in the small doorway overnight. Together, Jedderson and Chip devised tiny carved wooden blocks, each to be stamped in Jedderson’s own tail ink before being applied to paper, as a method of printing large quantities of literary work. Within the fortnight, the two had perfected the craft, attaching blocks to a long spine of shaped wood, turning the paper into a weekly available commodity, available for home delivery or purchase from town crier.[break][break]
Unknown to Jedderson, Chip has also begun to use this equipment in his own creative ways. Chip took note of the effect that Jedderson’s paper had, and he began to put his own work, unrelated to the Times, into the world. These, often poems and stories, come with no header or references, and are distributed around the town in very small number. [break][break]
More recently, these light-hearted poems have begun to be replaced with thoughts and even conspiracy on current events, often with an Anti-Royalist bend. An opinionated individual, Chip has begun anonymously offering speculation on the disappearance of the Priestess, stories on what really happened to the old Guild Master, interviews with supposed ex-Royal Guards, reports of corruption and corroboration between the Guild and the Mafia, all often without substance, have appeared in numbers of 10 or less, posted up in the less travelled alleyways around Market Street and other densely populated areas.
