Humboldt is fond of people the way someone else might be fond of pets: they’re full of personality and come up with the darndest things, but you really can’t leave them to their own devices for long or everything goes to hell. In most groups they’re content to take a back seat and watch things unfold, stepping in occasionally to keep everyone on track or say the unpleasant things that need to be said. Though, that’s not to say they don’t have the mischievous streak characteristic of their species; after all, don’t pranks always go more smoothly when people think of you as the quiet, intimidating one? Although there are always a couple rumours of mafia connections or shady dealings floating around, Humboldt's actually pretty forthcoming with their past if one gets up the nerve to ask. Their mothers met through their guild work and continued to explore far into Celes' teenage years. Fed on years of spectacular tales of their adventures, they joined the guild as an intern as soon as their parents would allow it. [break][break]
The plan was to shadow and learn from other exploration teams until they were old enough to be allowed into the dungeons themself. But they displayed an uncanny talent for management almost immediately, and by the time they hit 16 they already had their tentacles full with administrative obligations. The former Guild Master appointed them as official secretary just a few months before his untimely disappearance, and they've been busying themself with keeping Lavender alive ever since. They're not really one to regret their own decisions, but on rainy days with lots of paperwork, it's hard not to wish they had room in their schedule for some proper explorations... if only for that workaholic Guild Master's sake.
