Lavender was born with albinism, leaving him devoid of pigment in his skin, hair, and even his eyes. While his body and hair are snowy white, his eyes are his namesake, lavender. Physically frail since an early age, it comes to no surprise that he leans more heavily on his psychic powers to do just about everything. His eyesight is poor, though he refuses to wear his glasses when he is out and about. He only ever wears them when he is working in his office or at home.
While Lavender may seem like someone of grace and poise, fitting for the noble title his family holds, his well-mannered guise is nothing more than an act trained into him. He was taught to hide his flaws and mask his emotions, so, while he was always bombarded by the emotions of others, he was forced to keep a firm grasp on his own. He keeps his head held high when others are around, his expression never faltering.[break][break]
Yet Lavender is not as perfect as he is meant to seem. Take away the title and the prying eyes around him and he is nothing more than a lost soul trying his hardest not to wither away.[break][break]
Take a moment to watch Lavender as he goes about his daily routine in the Guild, and you may begin to notice the subtle actions he does. His hands tend to fidget, and it is not uncommon to see him playing with fabric or twine. Should he fidget in his office, he will mess with the feather of his quill, leaving it in disarray. Typically, he will replace it the very next day. At home, he takes to handcrafts to keep his hands occupied, and he has a vast collection of knitted clothing or embroidered cloth.[break][break]
While hardworking, Lavender has a nasty habit of throwing himself into his work. He will tirelessly tend to paperwork, never resting until he is either done or someone drags him from his office. He is prone to ignoring his own personal needs when he is working, and he requires someone to remind him at least half an hour before any scheduled appointments, lest he completely forget and miss them.[break][break]
The Delacroix family has held power within Colbagne for hundreds of years, standing as long as the Guild itself has. It was tradition that the heir to the Delacroix legacy would inherit the title of Guild Master once they have proven themself worthy. Lavender, however, was not the original heir of Delacroix. That title belonged to his older sister, the first born child to Jean-Claude Delacroix, the Guild Master of the time. Where Lavender was a sickly child in his earliest years, his sister was strong and bright. It was only natural that Lavender would live in her shadow, yet it gave him the opportunity to look elsewhere for his path.[break][break]
His mother would often take him to the castle. She was one of the many tutors for the Crown Prince, yet she never felt comfortable leaving Lavender home, even though the maids were quite capable of caring for him. Through his mother, he became the playmate to the prince. The two were practically inseparable during their visits to the castle.[break][break]
Eventually, his mother had to stop bringing him as often. Once the prince's studies grew harder, more time had to be slated for actual studying, leaving little time for the two to play together. To supplement this, Lavender was allowed out around town, so long as he was escorted by one of their staff. This was how he found and befriended a Zorua, finding him on the streets after straying from his maid's side. Ever quick to latch onto someone he meets, Lavender wasted no time in convincing the Zorua--Grimalde, as he found out--to come over to play. Only, their staff were under strict orders not to let anyone in without an appointment, so Lavender did the next best thing: smuggled his new friend inside.[break][break]
He never told the maid that he was returning home, and they were caught red-handed after the maid burst through the door with a frantic look on her face. At least the young master was home, rather than the thought of a kidnapping that had crossed the staff's minds.[break][break]
He was barely ten when his father took him to the Shrine of Eternity to pray for the safety of the Guild. It was a Delacroix tradition every time they were planning an expedition, though the journey to the shrine itself was harrowing. If it wasn't for their ability to teleport, they likely would never make, and Lavender would never be allowed to accompany his father. It was there he met a Munna, only a few years shy of his own age. The two played together while their parents performed the age old ritual.[break][break]
A few months later, his father and sister left for their expedition. They were to try and explore the mountains, searching for artifacts or, perhaps, a past them. Three seasons passed before his father returned with the remainder of his team. His sister was not among them, lost to an avalanche after a wild Pokemon prevented her escape. Or so he was told. The family mourned for the loss of their heir, but they were soon forced to move on.[break][break]
Lavender was named the next heir of Delacroix only a mere week since the Guild's return. He was forced to fill the empty space his sister left behind, and he was immediately thrust into his studies.[break][break]
A few years later, his father decided it was time for him to join the Guild as an apprentice. In doing so, he would be assigned another apprentice as a partner, customary for the newer Guild Members to prevent them from going into dangerous dungeons by themselves. Lavender, who was typically the passive type when it comes to the decisions of his parents, stepped forward and requested a specific Pokemon to become his partner.[break][break]
He wanted Grimalde. The Zorua had mentioned wanting to join the guild before, and this was the perfect opportunity to grant his wish. His father did not like the idea of his heir paired with a fox off the street, instead wanting someone from another esteemed family, someone he could trust to keep his frailer son from collapsing in the line of duty. Lavender's mother was able to convince him, and, despite his reservations, his father eventually agreed.[break][break]
Alas, all good things must come to an end.[break][break]
A few years and an evolution later, Lavender, then a Kirlia, was faced with the hard truth of life. No matter how close you are to someone, no matter if you believe you will be together forever, that person will eventually leave you.[break][break]
Lavender was left without a partner and an empty void in his heart. He refused to come out of his room for weeks and simply went through the motions every day. Nothing his parents said could bring him back to his senses, but that did not stop his mother from trying. She was his saving grace, through kind words to ease his mind, soft caresses that lulled him to sleep, and the stubbornness only a mother could possess. In time, she got him to eat again. In time, she got him to return to the Guild.[break][break]
Left with nothing, Lavender could only force himself to focus on his work to distract himself. He climbed the ranks alone before his father recommended him to the Royal Guard. The light finally seemed to return to him once he was allowed to be near an old friend once more. In time, he was promoted to General.[break][break]
For some time, all seemed well. Yet Fate seemed to enjoy stripping Lavender of what he held most dear.[break][break]
He accompanied his father to the Shrine once more as he prepared for another expedition. He waved him off at the gates as the Guild left, not knowing that the image of his father's back as he walked away would be the last memory of him.[break][break]
Only half of the team that left on the expedition returned. Their stories were mixed on what happened, but one thing was for certain: his father was gone. No one knew what happened to him. Search parties were sent out, and Lavender and his mother waited with baited breath for news. Nothing came of their efforts, and it was finally time for Lavender to accept the loss of a loved one.[break][break]
Per tradition, he stepped down from his position as General and appointed the next one. He returned to the Guild and took on the title of Guild Master.
