Mingzhu is basically a scuttling billboard for their shop; although smaller than average, the extravagant silk drapes and lace ribbons they wear more than make up for it. If they let themself be seen without so much as a scarf, something has gone terribly wrong. Still, they never quite manage to actually look elegant: they move and speak with a manic energy that utterly clashes with their style, and any conversation with them reveals an attention span that gleefully latches onto whatever seems most fun and never lets go. It's a wonder they never trip over their own skirts. [break][break]

Mingzhu is the co-owner of Moirae Boutique, a bespoke tailor shop near the north end of Market Street that specializes in silk and formalwear. More of an artist than a businessmon, they're a bit hard to work with; without a firm guiding hand they'll inevitably get carried away and suggest things way out of the customer's budget, whether because they think it looks cool or just because it's a challenge they want to try out. But the quality of their work is undeniable, and they have repeat customers in much of the nobility. [break][break]

(Incidentally, spider silk has a number of wonderful properties that come in quite handy when you're on the run from the law, and Mingzhu doesn't care much for legality as long as they get to work on something fun. At least they have enough sense to keep from gushing and bragging when they see a sleek reinforced jacket of their own design on the street. Most of the time.) [break][break]

Then

Born into a clan of travelling salesmon, Mingzhu has been in the tailoring business since they learned to talk. As a Joltik they were too small to handle the vibrant bolts of fabric they so admired, and relegated to customer service until they were "old enough". They liked chatting with their wide variety of customers well enough, but were nevertheless so impatient that they spent much of their childhood sneaking out of the caravan to scrap with feral Pokemon, until they finally managed to evolve at the age of 13. A celebratory dinner later, they took their place at the cutting table and never looked back. [break][break]

When news of Princess Ying Yue's betrothal came, quite a few merchant clans decided to head for Niphios as well - she was well-loved, after all, and what better way to support her (and make some extra cash) than to bring her a little piece of home? The Xian clan had other arrangements, but Mingzhu took this opportunity to set out on their own. They imagine they'll move on from Moirae Boutique someday, the same way their family has moved on from every stall and rented storefront. But for now, the sights and people and food and festivals are keeping them more than satisfied.
