A moist warmth coated the air with an unpleasant sense of mugginess, a gift from some earlier heavy winds that had brought in clouds fat with rain before deciding to literally just leave them hanging right over head like some poor excuse of a house guest. At least it kept the castle grounds cool, though for Shinra; her relief was much more minor compared to those who patrolled the paths below. Nestled onto one of the higher windows that dotted the castle's exterior, she had been using the shadow from a nearby tower to cloak herself whilst she kept watch. Simple things really- the advantage of being a phantom bird. Alas that didn't mean the sudden excess of humidity didn't make it a dreary afternoon.

By discipline alone did the Decidueye not shift in her spot, try to shake her feathers free of the damp that was slowly gathering in the crevices of her still form. Like a statue she stood there, the swiveling of her head a calculated effort that wouldn't disturb her hidden spot as she surveyed the paths open to her. From here the glowing green of the gardens didn't seem to dim despite the sun hiding itself away and it was far too easy to spot her ground-bound colleagues as they marched the land below. An idle glance toward the town just outside their walls had revealed the denizens rushing to protect their civilian goods from the sky's promised rain. The scent alone was an alarm enough that it wouldn't be long now though it did nothing to chase the owl from her place. Idle thoughts crept past her alert mind, drifting to thoughts of whether or not her children were home, safe and dry; or if they had decided to go out and would be caught in the deluge. What about her love? She could only hope that if he weren't home then that he'd been out on a mission and would miss the lazy clouds overhead.

At least it was a quiet day, well mostly what with some of the antics her fellow guardsmen sometimes did. Amusing little distractions to be sure, especially given their stuck position compared the guild members who ventured out to rescue the mysterious 'fallen' pokemon. Albeit Shinra didn't actually know what to really call them, poor souls? Lost children? She didn't have enough information outside rumors and what she'd heard from her love but then that was to be expected from one who didn't quite throw herself into social circles on whim. Though it could've also been a fault of their General's orders, extra shifts and all; that kept them out of the loop what with their tighter guard on the palace. Not that the owl minded, it was time that fed her family and kept her busy. Find the highlights in otherwise dull moments, as it were; it surely made watching even the skies empty of flying types passable.
