[break]Still more or less of a stranger to this world, Riley Graves meandered about the festival plaza like somebody's lost child, searching for something yet committing to nothing. He was given some advice back at the guild about making connections, all the while keeping his human identity a secret from the other strange inhabitants of Niphios. That was all fine and dandy, save for the fact that he didn't want to be here and this just seemed like an egregious waste of his time. He joined the guild because he thought that's what he had to do in order to get back home. If this really was, ugh...an isekai-type situation, he obviously had some kind of goal or quest he needed to complete in order to go back to his old body.[break][break]
He hoped it was still possible to go back. He's already been trapped here for over a week. What's happening to his body back at the dorm? Was he taken to a hospital? Are they going to pull the plug on him if he doesn't come back in a month or two? An eerie shiver went down his spine. No, of course not. That kind of thing doesn't actually happen. This kind of thing isn't actually happening. It's all just a dream, right? Believe in the cliche, and maybe don't go into a full-blown panic attack in a public space, yeah?[break][break]
He focused on the lanterns briefly, which were not yet lit considering the time of day. Riley used to be a tall guy, and now everyone that passed by seemed to tower over him, obscuring his view of the impressive statue that populated the center of the square. He began to walk towards it with a small huff, tiny enough not to cause a stir when he temporarily went against foot traffic. It wasn't heavily populated at the square yet, not too long after dawn. He wasn't sure how he was supposed to last in this kind of light for long if he was supposed to be some kind of ghost.
The statue depicted three monsters, and at its base a plaque went into detail about what it represented. Riley waited until he thought nobody was watching to get a closer look at it.
