[break]This was a great idea in theory, but it was turning out to be a total wash.[break][break]
The Academy looked like a place for children, not young adults like himself, but he knew these kids were likely educated on the creatures of this land, what they were capable of, and where they might be found. Essentially, these tykes were better educated than he was and some of them were around half his age. Riley actually spent hours toiling with the morality of pretending to be a child and sitting in on a class, but his law-abiding heart would not allow for such a blatant disregard of social propriety. He instead waited until the day's lessons were over before meekly strolling in and asking for access to their library as a visitor.[break][break]
Like an idiot, he realized far too late that the text in these books was in a language he could not understand. He should have connected the dots by now, after the statue in the square and the signs at the market. None of these books were in plain English. None of them gave him a great deal of insight. He managed to take some notes based on photos, but he came to the conclusion that the best way for him to learn about this world, aside from being given more information from his busy mentor, was to experience it for himself. He sighed and closed up the last of twelve books he had taken down and returned them to the picture book section when the librarian wasn't looking. No doubt they probably thought Riley was one of the children. He would have died of embarrassment if they came over and asked him where his parents were.[break][break]
Outside of the academy, there were some children playing a game of tag while they waited for their parents to come by and pick them up. Riley, by now emotionally exhausted, sat down on a nearby bench and began reviewing his notes. He had written down some names of Pokemon, drew very archaic 'drawings' of them, and wrote down attributes such as the feats he watched them perform, the types they could possibly fall under, and the moves they've appeared to use. He glanced up at the kids from time to time since they also used some of their moves and abilities to get the upper hand during their game. He didn't always have names for what they were, so he made a few up, 'onionfrog' and 'tuxedobird' being a few notable mentions.
