The last of the winter frost had melted away. It lingered now as puddles in the pits and cracks of the road and dampened the fur of unfortunate little creatures. Among these sodden fellows was Jupiter - he'd been forced into the city by the arrival of spring and the predatory pokemon it brought with it.

It was really quite terrible! Jupiter wasn't entirely sure he was ready to face the crowds after a winter spent in solitude. He much preferred to ease into these things.

Alas, hunger waited for no one and death wouldn't be delayed simply because he claimed he wasn't ready.

It was with this thought in mind and a rueful smile on his face that Jupiter made his way into the city. He'd never been here before and even his slowly growing anxiety couldn't smother the giddy excitement he felt at the prospect of exploring somewhere new.

The city-folk were really quite strange, too. His paws slowed as he passed a stall of oddly colored fabric peddled by an aipom. He gawked quite shamelessly until the merchant caught his eye and began to frown - Juniper quickly skittered away and tried to smooth his hackles back down. Though it was awfully tempting to take something simply because the trader had been so terribly rude to him by assuming he was out to rob them!

Well, Jupiter was out to steal something. But the merchant surely couldn't have known that! They were just the sort to judge others based on their appearance.

He didn't even need cloth. He didn't wear clothes!

Though... He could probably sell it to someone else in order to buy some food. With his newfound course of action in mind, he began to slink through the crowd in search of an easy mark to swipe something from.

And, oh, what an easy mark there was. Adarsa had the luxury of a day off- being that he'd tried to enter the library only to find it barred, and a rather rude note from the second historian saying he needed to go. Adarsa had been outraged at first, but a stop for hot cocoa and a scone had changed his mood, and now he was making his way easily down Market, eyes alighting at all the fine things for sale.[break][break]

Adarsa paused at a stall selling artwork, tail twitching and he looked over the wares. His fur was silken and plush, thin strands of jewelry falling from his ears, silvery bangles along his tail. He was particularly focused on a glimmering night sky, rich oils flecked with metallic stars. Ada sighed a bit, just imagining how the art would look in his office.[break][break]

His tail flicked as he thought, the bangle on it jingling and flashing in the light. It was silver, decorated with soft swirling engravings, studded here and there with ruby-like gems. It was likely worth a pretty penny… not attached to the psychic-type, of course.

Adarsa wasn't the only one drawn in by the art stall.

Jupiter was fully aware that he made for a strange sight against the backdrop of oil landscapes and watercolor portraits. How ugly he must seem - a stubborn weed growing among the flowers! It only served to give him a rising sense of anxiety and an instinctual urge to hide himself away from prying eyes and wagging tongues.

What was he doing? He didn't belong here.

His gaze slid away from the paintings and onto the espeon who stood not far from him. Jupiter swallowed down the hot rush of resentment that threatened to overwhelm his senses. His stomach felt queasy suddenly and he attributed it to disgust for that soft, clean fur and the sparkling jewelry adorning it.

Disgust was easy. Disgust was safe. Disgust was all that he would let himself feel for this pampered fool.

His eyes trailed to the bangle and he let himself slip into the familiar, fuzzy place of skulduggery. He knew that he could probably lift the bangle without the Espeon noticing... but Jupiter could not help but want to do something more. He wanted a distraction from the uncomfortable itching under his skin.

So he didn't bother with being stealthy.

He dashed forward and fastened his little teeth around the bangle and with a jerk of his head tried to pull it free. His yellow eyes flashed to Adarsa's face and there was one dizzying moment of adrenaline before he was off. The bangle would hopefully be in hand (er, mouth.)

Adarsa spent one moment lost in the flourishes and brushstrokes of a night-sky painting- and the next instant every sense was on edge, Ada whirling around to lock eyes with a bright-eyed little nickit... with one of his bangles in the creature's mouth. Adarsa just stared at him a moment, somewhat aghast- Had this creatures stolen from him? Stolen from him?[break][break]

And then the nickit bolted, Adarsa gasped softly before lunging after him. "Hey!-" But the cry was lost to the bustle of the crowd, Adarsa struggling to keep up with the nimble thief. He really wasn't used to so much running... And all the weaving around people, and around stalls... This was really exhausting. But! HE couldn't abide by thieves- and certainly not one who stole from him![break][break]

"Get- back here!" He panted, slowing down to catch his breath. "I- E...Enough!" He finally came to a stop, gulping in air, and tried to focus, tail twitching. He wove his reach through the crowd, honing in on the nickit- and more importantly, his jewelry. With a soft cry, he latched energy around the bangle, and gave it a sharp yank- trying to pull the jewelry free of the little cretin's mouth, but more than likely at least just buying a little time.[break][break]

Adarsa shook his head to regain himself, sucking in a bit more air, and started loping towards the nickit again. "S... Stop.... Ri... Right there...."

It all happened so fast.

Jupiter's eyes flew wide and he yanked his head in the opposite direction of the tug. The opposing forces sent him careening across the stone. His nails scraped against the stone with a horrible, drawn out squeal that had the fur of Jupiter's spine bristling from the horrible blend of physical sensation and ear-rending sound.

His teeth and claws tingled unpleasantly and poor Jupiter was hurtling towards the edge of sensory overload. He squeezed one eye shut and glowered at Adarsa with the other. This was not as fun as he thought it would be. It was, in fact, absolutely terrible.

So he decided to be spiteful about it.

Jupiter tugged back on the bangle, his whole body coiling like a snake about to strike. Then, with a quick check to make sure that Adarsa was still exerting telekinetic force.... he let go!

The bangle snapped out of Jupiter's mouth and rocketed towards Adarsa. Jupiter didn't stay long enough to see if it would hit its mark, though. He scurried away with a childish laugh and a cheeky flip of his tail.

Was this crowd always so dense? Jupiter faltered and tried to dance around the legs of a larger pokemon, casting a nervous glance back at Adarsa.
