Riley Hiding in the tree tops, gazing upon the market place that seemed to lack any sort of business at the moment, a rodent rested on a branch, keeping an eye out for a potential shop to snatch something from. The Emolga blended in surprisingly well into the shadows thanks to her black cape like membrane that also covered her back, tail, and head. It was rather easy to crouch into the shadows this way without being seen, and unless one was being very careful, even the most keen of Pokemon wouldn't have even noticed her, much less be aware of the danger she was about to showcase. It would be nothing in comparison to the things she wished she could do, but it would at least cause some kind of an uproar. She would've leapt at the first chance she's gotten, had it not been for one tiny problem. Glancing over to the walls, and scattered here and there, were wanted posters all with her adorable face on them. She used to be capable of throwing caution to the wind, but the moment anyone recognized her, she would be dragged to the authorities by the Guild where they'd lock her up and throw away the key. Just thinking about it made the squirrel quietly groan. She needed to keep her face hidden, but if she caused trouble in a disguise, she'd just have to find another one... The Emolga raised her paw in the air a bit and wondered if she could pull off a fast steal. The Emolga hummed. That was certainly a possibility, but she wasn't sure she wanted to make that kind of risk today. Best to take this one step at a time. She didn't always have to steal in order to cause trouble. Maybe she could simply rile other Pokemon up. No one would even know she did it. The little squirrel's eyes landed on a Loudred. Perfect! If she could get him mad, there would be no stopping the kind of noise he'd bellow out. Domino, the Emolga, smirked as she scurried down the treed and dived into the bush, peeking out cautiously as she grabbed a hold of a rock on the ground. The little Pokemon squeezed it in her paw, trying to test how tough the rock was, and when satisfied, she waited... just then, a Bellsprout started passing in front of her. Perfect... Domino tossed the rock into the air for a moment before flinging it to Loudred in a flash, and the moment the clunk sound indicated it had hit her target... it started. The Loudred, just as she expected, slowly turned to leer at the Bellsprout, who just so happened to notice the rock flying past him, and was facing the Loudred at the time. Domino scurried back up the tree and sat herself on the tree and watch the result of her little prank. "HEY!!!" the Loudred shouted, causing the Emolga to squeeze an eye shut and covered her ears a bit before smirking back down. "What's the BIG IDEA?!!! You got a PROBLEM PAL?!!"The Bellsprout raised his leaves up defensively and slowly started backing away. "I-I-I'm not sure what you're talking about!" the Bellsprout stuttered, which probably didn't help his case. "I-I didn't throw that rock at you!" Correction: it really didn't help. The Loudred sucked up a big heap o' air and yelled out a big, ear busting scream directly at the Bellsprout, one which Domino had prepared for by covering her own ears ahead of time. The words he was saying was completely incoherent, but Domino's work was finished. She hopped to a tree even farther away to protect her ears, but she had a perfect spot to watch her delightful little show play out. Domino formed a huge grin on her face. This was just what she needed... Now to find a disguise...

[break]Before the first domino (haha!) fell, Riley was on his way to the market running a small errand for his mentor. The Sableye's on-edge disposition gave way to a far more subdued air of indifference. He was beyond annoyed as of late and in a particularly sour mood this morning. As if it wasn't bad enough that everybody refused to talk to him about where he came from and what it meant in the grander scheme of things, the only quests he had been given were silly errands such as these. He had been asked to clean, cook, deliver messages, and finally fetch! Whose bright idea was it to design a groundbreaking immersive MMO that amount to simply doing chores for several days straight? They weren't even teaching him how to fight! He learned early on that Pokemon could harness the power of elements to their advantage, delivering powerful attacks with the correct amount of training, but so far he felt no better at defending himself than a ten-year old version of himself.[break][break] He would have been startled by the Loudred's initial screams if he were closer, but the spat between himself and the weedy looking fellow got his and every other vendor's attention. Riley tensed as the Pokemon with literal speakers over its head grew more bombastic and passionate. He kind of felt bad for the Bellsprout it was chewing out. Riley tried to wrack his mind on if he recognized them or what they were, but he didn't want to end up getting involved. If he was pulled into a fight, he'd be functionally useless. Two of the shopkeepers, a Kecleon and a Xatu, were abandoning their posts to try and help dissolve the situation. One of them, the Xatu, approached him on the way over to the arguing pair.[break][break] "Do you mind keeping an eye on my stall? If I abandon my wares, misfortune will follow. I have seen it," he said knowingly.[break][break] "Um...yeah, sure," Riley responded. Made sense. The Kecleon had his brother to watch the stall in his absence but the Xatu was on his own. At least this was a cut above buying a big apple and a few oran berries. Misfortune? Riley would be more concerned, but if that thing could see the future with that mile-long stare set of eyes, then maybe he knew that it was something the little ghost to handle.[break][break] So the Sableye took his post at the small shop, which was apparently one for appraisals. There were a few unopened chests about as well as a large ledger. Riley was curious, but he wasn't about to stick his nose into someone else's business while he was being trusted by a stranger to protect it. [attr="class","vncredticks"] »[attr="class","vnnotes"]...let's just be cool, man.

Domino's smile was practically ear to ear as the poor Bellsprout desperately tried to explain that he didn't throw the rock at the angry Loudred, and the Soundproof Pokemon didn't seem to be capable of hearing anything the timid Bellsprout had to say and kept shouting at him. Bellsprout started to cover his head with his leaves to try to protect himself from the noise, and Domino had to struggle to keep herself from laughing like a maniac and giving herself away. The little squirrel's smile shrank slightly as she glanced over to a couple of shopkeepers going to assess the situation. Well, that would either mean that her fun would be exemplified, or it'll die instantly. Seeing as this Loudred was livid, she had a feeling this wouldn't be so easily quenched, so she was more than eager to watch the flames start up again.
However, as she glanced over to the Xatu appraisal, the little squirrel caught sight of a few treasure boxes that weren't being watched very carefully. The Emolga smirked until she caught sight of the Xatu talking to a Sableye. Domino huffed. This wouldn't do at all... The little squirrel looked around and picked a leaf out of the tree... a knowing grin formed on her face as she placed one gently on her head, and before catching sight of a cloth on the ground and folding it around herself. Finally, she started placing dirt under her eyes to make herself look a bit... older than she actually was. Fooling that Xatu would've been impossible, but perhaps this Sableye would be a feeble sucker.
The Emolga cleared her throat before lifting her head up in a haughty manner before stepping out of the bushes so that she could slip into the street like she'd been walking down the path for hours. She gave a bit of a disapproving glance to all of the shops, huffing and sticking her nose in the air at each of them before glancing over at Xatu's apparel. "Hm..." the Emolga hummed as she tapped on the counter a few times and grinned at the Sableye as sweetly as she could. "Hello there, young Pokemon," she said, feigning the voice of an old lady. "Could I please have a look at what you have for sale? I'm afraid I can't quite see as well as I used to, so if it's alright, I'd like to see it on the counter... Uh..."
To make her point even better, she squinted her eyes at the counter that would normally say the name of the shop. "Hm..." She hummed in fake annoyance as she could actually read the sign just fine, but continued to play it up for accuracy's sake. Annoying this Sableye would've been a bonus. "I'm sorry, hun, I'm new here. W-what's this shop called?"

She just looked like one of those people, y'know? Sticking her nose up at the other stalls, animated in her disapproval. Riley worked a summer job briefly for one year in retail and he knew exactly what he was in for. The monster, as strange as all these monsters tend to appear, looked like dreaded 'Karen' of lore. His humming drew to a close as soon as she was within earshot. He was prepared to be asked for discounts and coupon validations.[break][break] Instead what he got was a strange squirrel who sounded like an old lady squinting at every sign like she was legally blind.[break][break] "Um...sorry ma'am," he said, trying to muster up some confidence. Do totem poles have genders?[break][break] Riley hoped he was wrong about this lady. She seemed nice now, but the vibes he got seconds before she spoke up to him were far less than friendly. The little squirrel pursed her lips a bit and hummed before lifting her eyes upward to look at the Sableye, clearly not incredibly impressed with the Ghost-Type's response. That being said, it didn't seem like she was incredibly interested in causing a scene at first as she placed a paw under her chin. The Emolga squinted her eyes and held the awkward silence, trying to give this gremlin every opportunity to squirm. She wasn't sure, he seemed like the type. Even if he wasn't going to make getting at the treasure easy, the squirrel still felt it would be plenty fun to make him uncomfortable at least. However, the Emolga knew she'd have to keep an open eye on the Xatu. He had the reputation of being quite hyper aware of things that are bound to happen in the future, and Domino had been around long enough to be aware of that.
Domino, after several moments, gave the Sableye a smile before she started talking again. "Oh, I understand, dear," she said sweetly while clearly unwilling to leave the shop. "But I just wanna look at some of the items that are available, that's all. If I browse a bit, that might make Xatu's job a little easier. Don't you want to help Xatu?" The Emolga tilted her head a little bit in order to feign innocence, like she didn't have any bad intentions.
After all, what kind of bad intentions could a sweet little old lady have?
"Come on, sweety," Domino said as she kept smiling at him sweetly, actually pulling off the sweet grandma act really well. "Can't I just look at some of the items he has for sale? Please?" Domino's tail started twitching slightly. She was about ready to switch tactics if this took too much longer to work. She was already starting to lose her patience a bit, though it would be nearly impossible for anyone to really be able to tell.

[break]Cripes, this lady sure was pushy. Didn't he just tell her he was simply watching the booth? He wasn't being paid for this or anything, not that he would be so calloused as to demand payment for such a small favor. She said she understood him, but she kept going on about browsing these wares when quite honestly, Riley wasn't all to sure what Xatu was selling. Aren't appraisals just looking over objects as assessing their value? Maybe these chests belonged to clients that left them with Xatu so he could do further research on their contents.[break][break] "Ma'am," he started, trying not to take a tone. "If this stall is for appraisals, I don't think Xatu is selling anything more than a service here." And it wasn't a pawn shop by the look of it either; pawn shops usually have more on display than this stall has readily visible. "Xatu's just over that way," he added, gesturing to the small crowd. The Loudred was not fully settled yet, but he was no longer going off like a subwoofer on full blast.[break][break] He sighed and managed a very tight half-smile. He was still nervous about refusing so adamantly, perhaps even costing Xatu future business, so he was starting to grow mildly irritated. "I don't know if the stuff behind the counter is for sale anyways. They might belong to clients or they might have been exchanged for other appraisals as payment." Domino was going to have a tough time if she stuck to this route. It looked like Riley wasn't about to budge on his stance here. The Emolga inwardly scoffed but still managed to keep the sweet smile on her face. Well... She wanted to do this the sly way, but it looked like she would have to make at least a bit of a scene. Seems like that's one disguise down the drain, but it was really no big deal for her in all honesty. The Sableye was starting to get agitated, which was at least somewhat of a victory for her, anyway. The Emolga knew very well that he had to be a ghost-type, at least she hoped he was anyway.
The gems he had for eyes made it seem possible that he might've been a Rock-Type, but he seemed too creepy looking not to be a ghost type of some sort.
Whatever... time to turn a weakness into a strength.
"Oh well... seems as though I'll have to take my business- Woah!" The Emolga looked like she was going to walk away from the situation before instantly rushing into a Quick Attack, leaving the leaf and cloak behind, and flying upward toward the back of the shop. Then, she quickly used Quick Attack again to bounce off the backing, light enough not to knock it over, but swift enough to leap toward where he was either standing or had been standing if he decided to avoid the attack despite the ineffective nature of the Normal-Type attack on a Ghost Type.
If he was there, however, she would simply seep right through him before attempting to grab a treasure chest, and attempt another Quick Attack toward the trees to make her get away. If all of this went through seamlessly, the Emolga would smirk at the Sableye as she kept moving forward to try and escape. "Hate to break it to ya, rock eyes," The Emolga mocked, no longer holding her feigned elderly impression, and wiping off the dirt as she flew. "But I'll be taking this with me if you don't mind." The little squirrel giggled.
Of course, it didn't matter if he did, she would try to take it anyway. Of course, if her attempt went off without a hitch.

[break]Good riddance, Riley thought, as it seemed the Emolga through with her persistent efforts. At least...that was until she moved at the speed of freight train shooting right over his head and landing squarely behind him and the shop. Riley barely had time to get into a defensive position, but his heart was beginning to race a mile a minute now. He wasn't ready for a fight, not like this, not right now. Nobody taught him how he was supposed to defend himself. Learning his 'moves' up to this point has required some trial and error, and apparently if he had four at his disposal, he only knew of two of them by complete accident. He used Leer on someone once without realizing that constituted as a move and there was this one time he was startled he apparently reacted with a move called 'Astonish'. And considering how easily his guildmates brushed those off, he knew they were weak moves even on a good day.[break][break] But what other choice did he have?[break][break] He was definitely slow to react, the first Quick Attack something he liked to call 'an attack of opportunity', and the second was literally just done at a higher initiative than his own; he didn't even have time to try to dodge, putting his arms up to protect his face but realizing that the Emolga passed right through him ineffectively. So he finally had time to react, and just in time to notice that the dastardly flying squirrel got her dirty mitts on one of the treasure chests. Well...she was going to be encumbered by the thing. Maybe that could work to Riley's advantage.[break][break] Riley lashed out at her, attempting to use that Astonish move again, hopefully with more effect than before. He was an incredibly weak attacker, of that he was sure--and that wasn't even accounting for his inexperience. He felt pretty sorry for himself at the awkwardly delivered attack. Then it dawned on him. He was always a terrible fighter, so how did he handle situations like these before?[break][break] "You know, Xatu said there'd be trouble!" He called out to Domino, Leering at her through the use of his Prankster ability. "That means they knew you were coming! How can you be so sure you're taking something valuable? If I were them, I'd probably rig the box I knew you'd take with a stink bomb!"[attr="class","vncredticks"] »[attr="class","vnnotes"]...fingers crossed...?

Domino grabbed the box and turned to dash over the Sableye's head. However, just as she was about to do so, the purple Pokemon managed to hit the speedy squirrel with the Ghost Type attack. The Electric-Type hardly seemed to twitch, though, as she took off anyway, retreating as she would've otherwise anyway.
OUxPSX1y1d100 (Astonish has a 30% chance of flinching... Domino did not flinch.)
After her taunt, the Sableye gave the little squirrel a glare, or leer rather since it was a move that didn't try to paralyze her, which was somewhat intimidating, but didn't really do much otherwise. He then said something about the treasure chest being some kind of booby trap or something, causing the Emolga to snicker a bit. "Y'know... You think if he thought that was so much of an issue, he might actually bury the treasure or something." Whatever the case, the grin on Domino's face made it rather clear that she'd be just as happy to receive a potential trap she could set for someone else as someone else's precious treasure. She could cause someone's misery one way or the other, so it was really no skin off her nose, really.
"Besides, what does that say about you, exactly?" Domino mocked while placing a paw on her hip and pursing her lips a bit. "Oh, look at me! I'm a stupid Sableye who got duped into watching a bunch of treasure chests that were nothing but booby traps anyway, so what was even the point of having me watch them anyway?" A slimy grin formed on her face. She was having way too much fun with this. "So you're either stupid for letting me get away with someone else's valuables, or you're too incompetent for Xatu to even trust you with the real thing. Either way, that's pretty pathetic, don't you think?"
The Emolga waggled an eyebrow, quite pleased with herself as she moved to go forward. "Oh, and here's my departing gift to you!" The yellow patches on her cheeks would spark a little before the Emolga let loose a ThunderShock toward the Ghost-Type as a parting gift before she tried to make her escape. If Riley didn't do something, the Emolga would most likely get away with stealing the chest.
And just as Riley was previously uninterested in changing his stance, she too wasn't too eager to let the treasure chest go even if it turned out to be a trap of some kind.1d100

[break]Riley wasn't going to question why Xatu thought putting him in charge was a good idea at this very moment. He needed to try keeping the Emolga engaged until the store owner returned, or at least until he had a better plan. He couldn't think of what else he was capable of...leering, astonishing, scratching maybe? How were any of those moves going to be useful to him right now?[break][break] When she started to taunt him, he only huffed in annoyance, couching lower. He wasn't going to humor this thief with a point, and clearly she didn't just do this for the goods. She did this because she enjoyed causing others strife. It made his blood boil; he hated jerks like these and he loathed criminals. Come to think of it, she did kind of look like one of the Pokemon on the wanted ads. The Emolga. "Are you done? If you're so confident that you've got this in the bag, then go," he dared. It wasn't his first time dealing with a bully and this one was far from knowing enough about his personal life to bruise his ego.[break][break] Riley braced himself for Domino's next attack, which didn't phase through him like her previous one had. He struggled not to cry out as he felt pins and needles overtake him from the weak electrical attack--weak, but delivered by a stronger foe. With a drive and desire to overcome the pain he accidentally discovered his fourth attack, Recover. He gasped as the tingling feeling dropped away. With that, Domino took off with the goods. What else was Riley supposed to do? If he left the stall, she might come back for more. She might come back anyways, but at least he'd have some time to make it more difficult for her to steal anything else.[break][break] The trunk Domino stole she would later find empty. It wasn't booby trapped, nor was it holding anything valuable. It was a trunk that contained an appraised item that the customer already claimed. It was a very simple Cute Chest too, nothing extravagant in value on its own.[break][break] The fight in the marketplace had come to an end, and as Riley was shoving the other chests deeper into the stall's shelving, Xatu approached. It turned out that he knew full well what would have happened if Riley guarded the stall, and that most of the chests were, in fact, empty. But he did confide in the Sableye where the valuable matters were stored, and mentioned that if Riley and the very flashy empty boxes weren't in place, the Emolga would have probably had enough time to scronge through the stall and find the goods. Riley was a bitter about being used like that, and now he in fact was humiliated by Domino's insults after all. It was a smart move though, he had to admit. He was bitter sure, but he did get over it.[break][break] Riley was gifted a little something for his trouble on Xatu's dime, but still feeling kind of scuffed, he moped about the marketplace for a while longer near the Orb Shop. [attr="class","vncredticks"] »[attr="class","vnnotes"]...well that was humbling.
